As well as gathering stories and images from former employees from the Campbeltown Shipyard Ltd., Top Skippers’ Choice aims to gather as much information about the boats built there, their skippers and the crews who fished in them.

Did you ever commission a boat from the yard in Campbeltown? Did you buy a boat that originally came from Campbeltown Shipyard? Did you crew on a boat that was built there?

If so, we are are keen to make contact with you and involve you in this project.

We aim to build up a comprehensive online archive about the yard so we are looking for biographies and anecdotes. Do you have photographs, VHS footage of the boats/launches or other memorabilia?

Please note that we don’t want to keep anything that belongs to you, we just want to be able to share scans and photographs and any contribution you make to the project will be credited to you. We would also like to reproduce your materials for an exhibition at Campbeltown Town Hall in early 2020 which will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first launch (Crimson Arrow CN 30).

We would love to hear from you, so please get in touch and help us to build up a three dimensional picture of why this yard was once described as “The Jewel in Lithgow’s Crown”.

    Hi Jan,

My Dad, Jimmy Leitch, was the lofts man at the Trench between 1968 and 1973 and I am sure he worked on the Crimson Arrow designs. He is no longer with us but I may have some photos from back then, will have a look. She ended up in Rothesay for a while but I think she was re named.

    Best wishes,

    Christine Robertson ( Leitch)
